Scorchin' and S'mores

Good morning, everyone!

Tonight there is a program coming your way that is both educational and fun!  A staff member from Environmental Health and Safety will be coming to the Landing to show students how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a fire and will help students to make s'mores at the same time.  Come on out to learn the correct steps to P.A.S.S. and enjoy some warm, melted, chocolatey goodness at the same time!

Join us at 6:00 PM at the Landing Seal to join in on the fun!

Until next time...

I Can Transform Ya...

Good morning, everyone!

Welcome back from Thanksgiving break!  I hope it was nice and relaxing for each of you.

I want to make you aware of a leadership opportunity on campus that can transform ya!  Many of you interact with people in this leadership basis on a regular basis and have been impacted by the ways they help your experience here as a student.  This leadership position is the Resident Assistant position.

The Resident Assistant is responsible for an on-campus residential floor, wing, pod, building, or area. The Resident Assistant serves as a facilitator to encourage a positive and welcoming, healthy and safe, cooperative and considerate living environment. The RA is expected to help build a strong, inclusive community by initiating and organizing floor, wing, pod or hall activities and programs. The RA serves as an information resource for the campus and residence hall. The RA also serves to assist with the personal and academic concerns of the resident and to help manage conflicts that may arise in the residential area. Therefore, an RA is expected to be a person who cares about their residents and continuously strives to make the residence hall a valuable and educational place to live.

The responsibilities of the Resident Assistant are numerous and varied. The following is a representative list of Resident Assistant responsibilities.

I hope that some of you will consider applying.  Click here for much more information and the link to the application.  Also, feel free to contact the Landing Residence Coordinator at kolkmeierk@uncw.edu if you'd like to set up a meeting to talk more about the RA position!

Until next time...

Winter Transition

Good morning, everyone!

Happy last day of classes before Thanksgiving break!

As many of you know, we are headed into a period known as Winter Transition.  This is the period of time when many students will be moving out because they are graduating, transferring, withdrawing, have an internship in another city, etc.  Others will be moving out because they are moving to another apartment in the Landing, Crossing, or Village.  For all of these students, it is very important that they are aware of the procedures involved with the transition period.

There is now a bulletin board posted in the Seahawk Landing office which contains a lot of information that any student who will be moving for any reason will need.  Come check it out!

Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming winter transition meeting with your RA to take place one day next week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Until after break...

Thursday's Thanks

This week's Thursday's Thanks goes out to the team of individuals who take care of the grounds here at the Landing!  Have you ever noticed that the landscaping always looks nice and things are taken care of around here without you even having to notice?  Well, that's because of the hard work that the physical plant staff does around UNCW and specifically the Landing to keep things looking nice for us!

You may not appreciate it as much now, but wait until you have your own home and have to rake leaves, clean gutters, plant flowers, clean the pool, etc. all for yourself!

If you see the grounds team around this week, say thanks!!!

Until next time...

Local Hot Spots

Good morning, everyone!

This morning's post is all about a local hot spot here in Wilmington.  I hope you all have been to this location, but if not it is a must!  The post below was written by Landing RA Josh Harcus on his personal blog.

Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn has been a very beloved place for me. I have been here many times! The out side of the building has a far out slight resemblance of a barn. But along the walk inside the magic starts to happen. The edgy atmosphere of the place makes it become more than a burrito place. There is memorabilia all over the walls. Pictures and fun things to look at while you wait, because if you go during rush… you will wait. As you get closer and the murmurs of the crowd gets louder with anticipation you can see some parts of the menu written across the wall. The wall as many different sayings like “leave your attitude at the door” or “attitude free, good service costs extra”.
By the time you reach the cash register, the gate-keeper of ordering, there are about 7 or 8 choices of burritos that are lit up along the back wall. “Double bacon cheese burgitto” has to be my favorite. Very dangerous for the heart, arteries and such; but man is it delicious! The secret sauce that has been protected for centuries, also known as “thousand island”, this sauce brings the whole burrito together in perfect delicious harmony that excites and calms the taste buds at the same time.
There are many other choices that can entertain and satisfy any customer. Vegetarian, “tortilla-less”, meat-lovers, anything a little heart could desire. So next time you are wanting that fun, exciting experience head to Flamin’ Amy’s!

Until next time...

Thursday's Thanks

Good morning, everyone!

We're back for another Thursday's Thanks this week!  This week we'd like to say thanks to a member of the Housing and Residence Life staff!  James Coston is a part of our maintenance team here in HRL and was a part of the team of staff who went through the Landing apartments on Tuesday for Health & Safety inspections.

James brought a positive attitude to the experience and was very helpful and resourceful to the graduate and student staff with which he was working!  James helped to take what can be a difficult task and helped to make it seem manageable!

So a big Thursday's Thanks to James for his positive attitude and hard work this past week here in the Landing!  Our staff and area greatly appreciate you!

Until next time...

Witty Wednesday

Hey everyone,

It has been brought to my attention that you'd all like to see some humor here on the blog.  That, I can do!

I have also realized that many of you are quite stressed right now with the end of the semester slowly creeping toward us.  For that reason, today's post will purely be dedicated to some jokes!  Enjoy!

Q: Why did the blonde tip-toe past the medicine cabinet?
A: So she wouldn't wake up the sleeping pills.

TEACHER: John, how do you spell "crocodile?"
JOHN:"K-R-O-K-O-A-D-I-L"

TEACHER: NO, that's wrong.
JOHN: Maybe it is, but you asked me how I spell it!

A man goes to the hospital and tells the doctor he can't do chores around the house like he used to. "What's wrong with me", he asks? The doctor replies "after many tests we determined there is nothing wrong with you, just laziness". "Great, now what is the medical term for that so I can tell my wife?"
