Good morning, everyone!
I have decided to move our weekly recognition to Thursdays and call it Thursday's Thanks instead. Don't forget that if you'd like to nominate someone, just send their name and brief paragraph about why'd you like to thank them to kolkmeierk@uncw.edu
This week we will recognize our Seahawk Landing locksmith, Ed Meyland. What many of you don't know is that Ed spends many hours a day changing the locks here in the Landing when someone loses a key or the lock becomes jammed for any reason. Many days, he is in and out of the Landing multiple times. Ed always meets our staff with a smile and has built a strong working relationship with our staff! It is so nice to see such a positive impact in our community! Thanks for everything you do, Ed!
Until next time...

Etching Your Belongings
Good morning, everyone!
Have you ever wondered if there was a way to mark your belongings or log your belongings so that if they're ever stolen you'd have record of them? Well, I'm here to inform you that there is a way for you to do that and it's coming your way tomorrow here in the Landing.
Tomorrow afternoon, our PAC'N (Police and Community Networking) Officer, Officer Hodge of the UNCW Police Department, will be out on the seal with an etching tool. Feel free to bring down your laptops, gaming systems, bikes, and other personal belongings to the Seahawk Landing Seal to be etched by Officer Hodge. This way you will have your name etched into your belongings and if they're ever stolen, will have your name on it.
Hope to see you there!
Until next time...

No Impact Lunch
Good morning, everyone!
I hope you all had a great weekend. I wanted to let you all know about an event taking place this Wednesday in Wag. As this week is No Impact Week, Wagoner Hall will be hosting a No Impact Lunch from 10:30 am- 2:30 pm.
At this event, North Carolina vendors will showcase their products and give out samples ranging from chocolates to hot sauce. UNCW groups will promote their specific causes and share information with attendees about ways they too can minimize their impact on the environment. In addition to the farmer’s market, a local lunch will be served inside the dining hall incuding farm-raised tilapia, smoked turkey quesadillas, and eggplant ratatouille, all featuring products purchased from local vendors. Advanced tickets to the lunch can be purchased at any dining location for a discounted price of $7.00. Co-sponsored by Campus Dining and Housing & Residence Life.
Hope some of you will be able to attend this educational event!

Bike Safety
Good morning!
I have seen quite a few of you around campus and around the Landing riding your bicycles. That's why I want to take some time out today to talk about bike safety and etiquette.
It is important to know that you do not have the right-of-way at a crosswalk when you're on your bike. In order to have the right-of-way, you must dismount from your bike or skateboard and then walk across the crosswalk. If you were ever hit by a car when crossing the crosswalk on your bike or skateboard, you would be at fault. The crosswalk is for walking, not riding. You are considered a moving vehicle when riding a bike or skateboard. You could also receive a citation from the UNCW Police if they see you riding across a crosswalk when you do not have the right-of-way.
Also important to know is that it's mandatory for you to register your bike with the UNCW police department. This is mandatory for your of well-being. If your bike is ever stolen and the police find it, they will be able to return it based on the registration for your bike. You can register your bike 24 hours a day at the UNCW police department.
Finally, make sure you are parking your bikes on the bike racks and not on trees or light posts. Proper bike lock-up is on the racks provided for you and not any other piece of university property.
If you ever have any questions, please free to ask me or a UNCW police officer.
Until next time...

One in Four
Good morning!
I hope some of you will consider contacting the organization about becoming involved with this important organization!
Yesterday's post was for the ladies and today's post is for the gentlemen of the Landing!
I want to let you know of an organizatio on campus which is exclusively for men. One in Four is a all-male organization dedicated both to promoting men’s health and healthy sexually, and to ending violence against women. The group consists of UNCW men from all walks of life who believe that every man should define masculinity for himself, rather than allowing masculine stereotypes to dictate his choices and behaviors. We are currently recruiting new members for our Spring Training class. If you want more information or would like to get involved, contact Adam Tate at tatea@uncw.edu. I hope some of you will consider contacting the organization about becoming involved with this important organization!

For the Ladies: RAD
Good morning, everyone!
Today's post is for the ladies and tomorrow will be a post for the gentlemen.
For the ladies today, I'll share information about a program done through the UNCW Police Department. The UNCW Police Department offers RAD classes (Rape Aggression Defense) to female students throughout the semester. The program teaches realistic self-defense tactics and techniques in a hands-on style. Classes are facilitated through four 3-hour sessions over the course of two weeks, culminating in a chance to practice against a member of the UNCW PD!
To see the schedule and register, visit: http://www.uncw.edu/ba/police/radschedule.html
I hope some of you will consider registering to take part in this program. It is well known across the nation and we're lucky to have it here at UNCW!

Tuesday's Tap
Good morning, everyone!
We are starting a new tradition here on the Landing blog this week. From now on, we will have Tuesday's Tap every week as our blog post on Tuesdays. It will be a way to honor someone who has done something noteworthy or above and beyond the call of duty for the university or the Landing specifically.
This week our first Tuesday Tap goes to the staff of The Landing coffee/sandwich shop. The ladies in there work hard to meet each person's requests, serve all of us with a smile, learn the names of residents and frequent visitors, provide ice and hot water for programming for the RAs, and just make the Landing more special than it already is! This week we want to send out a big THANK YOU for our Tuesday Tap to the staff of the Landing coffee/sandwich shop. If you stop in there this week, please give them an extra thank you for all that they do!
If you have someone you'd like to nominate for next week's Tuesday Tap, please email their name and why you want to nominate them to kolkmeierk@uncw.edu

RHA
Good morning, everyone!
I hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed all of the football action that took place this weekend!
Hopefully by now you have heard about RHA, the Residence Hall Association. If not, the UNCW Residence Hall Association (RHA) is the governing body over all of the area chapters for the on-campus student population. RHA holds weekly meetings where student concerns are addressed, and programs are planned. The Executive Board of RHA is made up of the President, Vice President of Programming, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Administration, National Communications Coordinator, a National Communications Coordinator In-Training, Public Relations, and NRHH Representative. In addition to the executive board, RHA requires one representative from each of the residential area chapters to attend the weekly RHA meetings. Any student may attend the meetings throughout the year.
The RHA meetings are Monday evenings (including tonight) at 7 PM in Seahawk Crossing Building 2. I hope you will consider coming to the meeting tonight. You will learn about major programs happening on campus, opportunities for community service, and meet other residents from around campus.
Until next time...
